Glenbrook Road, Apartments
This residential apartment project started as a master-planning concept for a road intersection, in the Glenbrook neighborhood of Stamford. The community association had developed design guidelines that allow for increased density with building massing that aligns with the street “wall”, and includes retail uses on the ground floor. The design response places the cars on grade, behind the store fronts and adds three stories of apartments above. There are 43 units, with a mix of studios, ones, and twos. The third residential floor is set back in various places, to give the facade some animation and a reduced profile on the street. Natural materials of brick and limestone are intended to relate to the older architecture residential of the neighborhood.
