Wharfside Commons

CWA designed this 96 unit housing project on an urban site in Middletown, CT. It is now hailed as the finest community housing project, of any downtown in the state.

The building plans establish a unique model for affordable housing. Each is 4 stories with 4 units per floor and a central corridor that is open to the outside. Each apartment has it's own exterior entrance. Individual 4 story building blocks are grouped into 3's with a central landscaped courtyard / forecourt facing the street. The materials match the brick and traditional brown-stone facade details found in the neighborhood.
